Stambaugh Auditorium Monumental Staircase and Façade Project

DeSalvo Construction Begins Our 15th Project for this Historic Landmark

The team at DeSalvo Construction is honored to serve as the construction manager for this exciting new project at Stambaugh Auditorium, a Youngstown landmark preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026.

Construction started during the last week of April and should be ready for the community to enjoy by Thanksgiving, depending on weather conditions during the upcoming months. The auditorium will continue to operate as work progresses.

Highlights of this latest endeavor include:

self-performing

Replacement of and repairs to the monumental staircase, comprised of all limestone materials.

design-build

A new access ramp with a snow melting system and integrally illuminated handrail.

value-engineering-icon

New exterior lighting.

All of these items - along with the masonry cleaning work that will remove 95 years of dust, dirt and probably some steel mill soot and ash too - will help restore the façade to look like it did nearly a century ago. At night, this historic building will appear even more magnificent.

This is our 15th project with Stambaugh Auditorium. Past projects include ballroom renovations, kitchen upgrades, a roof replacement and more.

“It’s very satisfying to know that the building you are working on will be appreciated by future generations of the Mahoning Valley that gather in the venue, whether to recognize graduations, celebrate weddings, or enjoy the sights and sounds on the concert hall stage.” – Jim Bayer, vice president of preconstruction services at DeSalvo Construction.

“We are grateful for DeSalvo Construction’s partnership, professionalism and integrity. Stambaugh Auditorium is a historic and cultural asset for Youngstown and the surrounding area. We look forward to completing the restoration of the exterior of the building to match the grandeur of the beautifully restored interior.” - Matt Pagac, chief executive and operating officer of Stambaugh Auditorium.
