Construction Manager at Risk

Project Description:

DeSalvo Construction was the CMR for this project which included the renovation of 15,900 Square Feet for the installation of a new dental lab, simulation stations, dental clinic, and study area to accommodate a School of Dentistry at NEOMED Campus. Scope of work also included renovations to interior Galleria and a new driveunder exterior entrance canopy.

Project Description:

DeSalvo Construction is performing this project as a construction manager at risk. Work consists of a 145,000 SF addition for a new recreation and wellness center. Work includes construction of a band shell, locker rooms, 200 meter indoor tracks, multi-purpose field inside of track, areas for multiple wellness programs, and a walking track.

Junior Achievement BizTown at The Eastwood Mall Complex

Project Description:

The JA Economic Education Workforce Center is a 15,679 sq ft repurposed space inside the Eastwood Mall Complex that will house two of Junior Achievement’s flagship programs: JA BizTown® (for 4th–6th grade students) and JA Finance Park® (for 7th–12th grade students).

The space includes:

  • ~11,700 sq ft for JA BizTown®

  • ~3,300 sq ft for JA administrative offices

  • 15 storefronts simulating real-world businesses and institutions

  • Designed to serve over 95,000 students, 100+ schools, and 1,200 volunteers annually

This highly interactive center gives students hands-on experience with jobs, financial decision-making, entrepreneurship, and civic responsibility.

Trumbull County Career and Technical Center - Industrial Technology, Career Exploration, and Resource Center

Project Description:

TCTC’s new Industrial Technology, Career Exploration, and Resource Center is designed to expand workforce development opportunities throughout the region. The facility will provide hands-on training in advanced manufacturing, robotics, maintenance, and other in-demand career fields while also supporting career readiness and student services. As general contractor, DeSalvo Construction is honored to help bring this transformative project to life for the students, families, and employers of Trumbull County.

This new center represents a long-term investment in the future workforce and economic growth of the community. By expanding access to technical education, career exploration, and support services, TCTC will help prepare students for high-wage, high-demand careers while strengthening partnerships with regional employers. The facility will also create a centralized resource hub that supports both educational achievement and workforce readiness for years to come.

Community Workforce and Cultural Center

2020

Campbell, Ohio

Project Description:

Construction of a new 43,000-sq.-ft.-building to house the Community Literacy, Workforce and Cultural Center led by the Campbell City School District. The building includes a 23,000-sq.-ft- pre-engineered metal building area for athletics and health & welfare activities, with the remainder of the facility accommodating a library, health clinic, and space for various STEM and community college outreach programs.

Benefit/Value to Client:

DeSalvo Construction’s skills in schedule management, collaboration and cost analysis were perfectly suited for this project. Thanks to an increase in available grant funding, supplemental mezzanine space was added to the scope of work following contract award. The DeSalvo team identified and facilitated key decisions needed for long-lead procurement items, such as the pre-engineered metal building, so fabrication could begin while changes to the design were finalized. Despite the additional scope and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the construction team successfully completed the project on schedule.

Western Reserve Local School District K-12 Building

2012

Berlin Center, Ohio

Project Description:

Construction of a K-12 facility featuring three distinct wings for the elementary, middle and high schools, built around a core concept that included a cafetorium and two gymnasiums. The project was completed only 40 feet away from the existing high school, which remained fully occupied and operational during construction.

Role:

General Trades Contractor, self-performed masonry and carpentry

Benefit/Value to Client:

The project was completed and delivered to the owner on time, adhering to a rare winter break/mid-December turnover completion date.

The project earned LEED Gold Certification.

Niles City School District Primary and Intermediate Buildings

2013

Niles, Ohio

Project Description:

Simultaneous construction of two new buildings on separate sites within the district. Each totaled over 76,000 sq. ft.

Role:

General Trades Contractor, self-performed masonry and carpentry.

Benefit/Value to Client:

During January 2013, the project schedule indicated a three-week delay. DeSalvo Construction was instrumental in helping the project meet the original turnover date in June 2013.

The project earned LEED Silver Certification.

Youngstown State University – Tod Hall

2010

Youngstown, Ohio

Project Description:

Construction of a new four-story entrance, stairwell and stand-alone ashlar faced masonry veneer focal point wall for the existing building. The project included excavation for a new basement, new custom stair structures, curtainwall envelope systems, new roofing and roof tie-ins, and landscaping restoration work.

Preconstruction planning and scheduling allowed the project team to achieve the owner’s desired results with minimal disruption for students and faculty.

Youngstown State University – Spring Street

2008

Youngstown, Ohio

Project Description:

Renovation of YSU’s University Plaza, which now serves as the main entrance road for visitor traffic entering the football stadium, basketball area and student center. The project included utility work, road and parking construction, site sidewalks and amenities.
